53. Do You Want to Join the #Ó7TRAVEL Group?

When summer arrived – that painful summer of 2023 – that time of hopes and travel plans, we stayed home. The trips the four of us took together, with Max, would no longer happen.

That summer, we started something new – I’d even dare to say it was when we began Oscar’s legacy.

Stickers with the Ó7 logo began appearing in beautiful places. It was a wonderful initiative, because everything that brings us closer to Óscar gives us life. Yes, I know it’s a paradox, but it’s true.

One was placed on the top of a mountain, another on a bridge in Amsterdam. All of this filled me with a sense of purpose – to keep his memory alive and to pay a silent tribute.

To dream about how Oscar would have experienced each journey through the eyes of those who now have the chance to explore unique places, whether simple or magnificent, remote or nearby – it doesn’t matter. It’s not about the place. It’s about the thought.

For me, seeing this idea of leaving a small piece of Oscar in the places we visit is a gift. It helps me keep the flame of the present alive. Through the eyes of travellers, we visit landscapes that Oscar will never be able to see.

I always tell them that his legacy lives in those moments – in the minutes they spend thinking of Oscar, valuing the “now,” the moment they’re living – the privilege of travelling, of feeling, of learning from every place and because of this, growing from what life offers them each and every day.

It fills me with pride to feel that people value and make use of the moment. Thinking of him, leaving a mark in the places they visit – it shows me that something has changed in the way we see the present. And how wonderful it feels to be connected, united toward a common goal. We are social beings who long for connection and belonging.

Here on WordPress, on this communication platform, there are hundreds of followers from all over the world who read Oscar’s story through my eyes. Thanks to my friend, Jonathan Rogerson, the English translations have helped me reach much further – translations straight from the heart by someone I will always remember in the stands at the football field, cheering like a true Englishman with contagious energy and enthusiasm.

He helps me reach the United Kingdom, Sweden, Japan, Egypt, China, Vietnam, Iceland, Angola, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka… I’ve counted up to seventy countries where someone has read at least one chapter of the blog.

Would you like to be part of this legacy? To you, wherever you are, with joy and a sense of unity, I would love to cross the borders of your country. By showing the Ó7 logo, you can share with me – on Instagram or here if you prefer – an image of a place in your country or city. If you share a photo with me on my Instagram @monipeni1613, showing the place and Oscar’s logo, I will repost it, save it, and mark your country on our special map at home.

All you need to do is display the image in your chosen landscape or space. Are you in?

Ever since he was little, Oscar loved learning the flags of different countries. He would search through his atlas for the most interesting or the most faraway ones. In tribute to that curiosity, and with the love of so many people who have reached places all over the world remembering Oscar, and that precious “now”, the project continues.

This is our special place at home – in Oscar’s room – where, both in Spain and beyond, we mark every time someone sends us their love and makes us more human, and ultimately, more united.

I’m Jonathan, the translator, and I just want to say a few words.
When Montse mentioned my name in her blog, I was deeply moved – I truly didn’t expect it.
Oscar was my son’s friend. They’d known each other since kindergarten, went through middle and high school together, and even played on the same football team. Just two weeks before that terrible day, Oscar was at our house, watching Manchester United beat my Newcastle United in the cup. We laughed, joked, shook hands after the match, and shared a hug. None of us could have imagined it would be the last time we’d see him.
I was in England when my wife called to tell me the awful news. I remember feeling complete disbelief, an emptiness, and a kind of shock that words can’t really describe.
None of us can truly comprehend what Montse, Jorge, and Sandra have gone through. Translating Montse’s words is the very least I can do – a small way to honour her and her wonderful son, Oscar.
